The Atlanta Braves clinched a playoff spot Tuesday night with their 4 – 3 win over the Marlins. The Braves now have 18 playoff appearances, including 16 division titles, five pennants and one World Series.
Chipper Jones, who plans to retire at the end of the season, led off the ninth with a double. He moved to third on a wild pitch by Dunn (0-3) and scored when Freeman’s 22nd homer easily cleared the center-field wall. Moving forward from last year’s collapse, ”There was never any doubt,” Jones said during the clubhouse celebration. ”We knew that last year was somewhat of a fluke.”
Freddie Freeman’s 22nd home run on Tuesday night puts him at second on the team, trailing only Jason Heyward’s 27. The Braves look towards a perfect send-off for Jones.
