So far, Calvin Johnson has not been the premier WR this season. His fantasy stats are down and he has missed practice due to a knee injury. In addition, it appears that Johnson may have suffered some nerve damage from some big hits that happened earlier in the season.
In an interview, Johnson said, “I had some nerve damage that was kind of messing up my grip a little bit. Not to blame it on that, but… I think maybe the concussion could have had something to do with some of that damage I had going on. Taking those hits, they were real violent. They definitely have a lot of lingering impact, whether it be your neck or your head. It can do a lot of stuff.” When Johnson was asked to elaborate on the nerve damage, he said what is typically referred to as a “stinger” and “stuff shooting down your arm, stuff like that.”
The Lions doctors determined that Johnson did not suffer a concussion on the hit to his helmet earlier in the season but Johnson has maintained that he did. Johnson said the lingering nerve problems have improved while Coach Jim Schwartz reiterated, “He wasn’t concussed.”
One of the other things that people have been wondering… Is this the Madden Curse???
