The NHL canceled the first two weeks of the regular 2012 season from October 11th through the 24th starting with 4-games next Thursday, which would have been the league’s opening night. It is not clear if the 82 games during that period will be made up.
The announcement was made in a two-paragraph statement. This is the second time games have been lost because of a lockout in seven years.
